"Allen Thompson is one of the best new artists to come out of the South in recent times....he’s got soul, he’s got groove and he knows how to rock. With Jimmy Nalls’ fine production and all the great musicians on the CD, it’s on my highly recommended list!"- Chuck Leavell

Allen Thompson

Call it hippy cowboy music, roots music, folk, americana, rock or any other genre you can think of to try to file the music of Allen Thompson.  Whatever you decide to call it, it is REAL and real good.

While taking a listen to Allen's self titled cd I initially felt like I had been lucky enough to stumble across some lost masterpieces from the Black Crowes & Elvin Bishop unknown time travel recording sessions.  Just as I settled in, I found myself back in the DeLorean flying through a cool retro 70's country blues time period. Then the bluegrass whiskey drinking suicide song had me looking for Doc Brown & Marty to get me to 88 miles and hour immediately and take me to a happy time!

Seriously though, it was such a pleasant surprise to be taken on a musical journey instead of being served up yet another plate of refried Nashville stock fried musical pie.  Allen didn't keep me down for long as the groovy retro rockin' continued and he whooped up some funky guitar and sweet swirlin' organ dipped in a big bowl of southern rock soul vocal gravy!

From top to bottom, a fantastic and truly original effort with inspiration from EVERYWHERE!  I can only imagine what a cd collection Allen must have to draw influence from. On second thought after meeting Allen, it is probably all on vinyl.  Check it out, you won't be disappointed no matter what style of music is your flavor.

“This is honest music about love and life. I play American Music. I sing songs about the changes that occur in all of our lives. I don’t sweeten up a song about love, because love isn’t always sweet. I don’t sadden up a song about death because death is a natural part of life. I sing real music with real lyrics about real people. My songs come from the limited view of the world I have had over the past 26 years. Hopefully the longer I’m around, the better the songs will be” –Allen Thompson
